If I‘m being completely honest, Croatia never really appealed to me. I don’t really know why. Maybe it was the unknown. When I was younger I wasn’t as adventurous as I am now. I wish I discovered it sooner, but then again, maybe this was the right time to appreciate everything the country has to offer!
Last year we stayed for 3 months in Cavtat, a beautiful small town in the south of Croatia. I had never heard of it, but it was south of Dubrovnik. Cool! Before we picked this town, we did our research about where to find the best internet (because we work online), the distances to supermarkets and beaches (we don’t own a car), and of course if we weren’t in the middle of a party spot. We found the perfect place! For 3 months we rented a beautiful apartment with a huge balcony to enjoy the sunsets. We lived above the family that owned and built the apartment. They had a massive garden where they produced their own fruits and vegetables and were very welcoming to us. When we arrived, they arranged a BBQ for us with the family, so we could get to know each other a bit. It was such a great experience.
Over the months we were there, we explored a bit more and did some trips outside of Cavtat. We went to a local winery, the most beautiful hidden beach, Dubrovnik and some other small towns close by. This part of Croatia is incredibly beautiful!
Cavtat itself is like the Saint Tropez of Croatia. There are a lot of expensive yachts in the harbour, and some really fine restaurants. The beaches are amazing. Most of them are pebble beaches (so bring some water shoes!), but the water is as clear as can be. If you want your perfect holiday pictures, this is the place to make them!
Dubrovnik is very touristic, but beautiful. If you are a big Games of Thrones fan, this is obviously the place to be! We did a walk over the city walls and walked for many hours through the old town. There are a lot of good restaurants, and very important for all you beer lovers out there, there is an amazing craft beer bar!!! It’s called Glam Café and is highly recommended on your visit there. But Dubrovnik is more than the old town. The other parts of town are also worth visiting and if you hire a boat, or SUP you get the best view of the town.

We only saw a small part of Croatia, but enough to know that we really liked it here! We’ve been to many countries in the Balkans, but in Croatia people are very friendly. There are so many flowers everywhere, the houses are gorgeous, I can honestly not name one thing that is bad. For the future we will definitely come back and explore more of this amazing country.
If you ever get the chance to go to this part of Croatia, do it! In our opinion it’s absolutely worth it! Have you ever been to Croatia? Or maybe even Cavtat or Dubrovnik? Or would you like to go? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
I have been to Dubrovnik, and sayed in a hotel in Cavtat, which was beatiful. The water in your photos is just as blue as I remembered. I could see the sea from the balcony of the hotel, and always thought of Italy that is on the other shore (though too far away to see, of course).
If you go back to Croatia, you may want to visit park Krka, and also Rovinj (up north).

That sounds amazing! Yes, the water is so blue and clear. Gorgeous! And thank you for the tip. We would love to go back, but then to another part, so your recommendation is perfect! 🥰
