A smile can say a thousand words! I always loved to smile, but I noticed that the last couple of years I started to ‘pose’ my smiles. On almost every picture I took in the last 2 – 3 years, I have the same posed smile. As almost every person, I have my insecurities, but my smile was never one of them. What happened? My teeth were crooked, but they used to be straight! How did this happen? I had braces when I was young, so they were aligned perfectly. Stress! My crooked smile was caused by stress!!
I do not handle stress very well. I pretend everything is fine, but on the inside it is eating me up. In this case, over the years, I have been pressing my lower teeth to the outside with my tongue. This happened over the course of 1-2 years! Yes, it happened that fast! I really started to notice it when I had to make a video. Suddenly I felt incredibly self aware of my smile, that I was afraid to open my mouth or post any genuine pictures of myself. This is not how I want to live! So in October 2021 Paul and I both got braces. We travel every 3 months, so getting the ‘normal’ braces wasn’t an option for us, because we are not in the same country all the time.

That is why we chose the ‘invisible’ ones.
That sounded great! Nobody can see them and we will have a nice smile again! Well, they aren’t as convenient as you would think. See, what we didn’t know is that you can’t eat or drink anything for 22 hours per day. To get the best results, you can only take them out for 2 hours per day. And when you have the braces in, you can only drink water. Hot drinks are out of the question! Oh no! What about my coffee fix? The first couple of weeks were the hardest, but after a while you adjust quite easy.

When you get your braces, you get ALL of the trays, and we also had to pay for all of them. With normal braces you pay per month, or per visit. You also have to switch them yourself. The dentist attaches some composite (the stuff that they use for white fillings) to your teeth (not all of them) so the trays will stay in place.
What we didn’t know is that the composite is sensitive to discoloration. I have one on my front tooth and it is stained by food and drinks. There goes the invisible part! But with that being said, they do the job!

I am actually really surprised with how fast our teeth are corrected. We have to use 3 different trays per month: 1 week, 1 week, 2 weeks. So 4 months in and my bottom teeth almost look normal again! I can’t believe it!
In August this year I will be completely done (Paul next year) and after that, we have to wear night braces for the rest of our lives. And it’s worth it! This is absolutely a ‘Happy Life Decision’ that I’ve made.

Interesting. Might look into getting the bottoms. I was going to just put up with them getting crooked again.

You should. 🥰 I tried that as well, but I didn’t feel like myself and that is why I chose the braces.
