What makes me feel strong?

Okay, some of these prompts are setting you up to talk about serious topics. I don’t want my blog to become too serious. I want to share with you ALL kinds of happy life decisions I have made to lead a happier life. Not all of them have been heavy hearted, emotional or serious. A lot of my happy life decisions were small, and filled with humor. I mean, what is life without a bit of humor! So every now and then I will NOT write a serious post, and will try to make you laugh (or at least chuckle a bit).

From the top of my head I can already name dozens of examples of things that make me feel strong, but I am trying to create posts that are easy to read and will not take too much of your time. So here we go! Things that make me feel STRONG:

1. When I can open a jar of pickles on my own!

My goodness! That feeling when I can finally eat that pickle that I have been craving for hours because I couldn’t open the jar!

2. When I can carry 5 heavy bags of groceries back home!

My record is 7!!! Does it happen to you? When you are standing at the register, you bag all the groceries, look at the amount of (heavy) bags, and think: ‘how on earth am I going to get this home?’ It happens to me at least a couple of times a month, but I succeed in getting them home safe every single time!

3. When I finally solved that riddle that everyone seems to understand except me!

Paul finds these fun riddles on FB, and he is always so quick in solving them. Paul is really intelligent with these things. Then he turns to me and says: ‘This was easy!’ My reaction: ‘Yes, super easy!’ (No way that I am going to admit that it took me a while to figure it out!)

4. When I can walk with my heavy backpack (which is full with unnecessary stuff) without falling over.

A couple of years ago on my first backpack trip (with my mom), we stayed the night before we left for Vietnam with a friend of mine in Amsterdam. From her house we took the bus to the airport. When the bus made a sudden stop, I fell over on my back and couldn’t get up! I looked like a turtle on its back, flapping my arms and legs around to try and get back up!

As you can read, there are a lot of small things that make me feel strong!

What are the small things that make you feel strong? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

  1. I feel the same way! That’s why I went back to writing about Ellie 🙂
Its awesome that you wrote the post the same way as you did “Lessons that you’ve learnt”

  2. I am 60 and I am strong, so I thought. I passed the test in walking up and down the hills for almost three hours. I brag about it. I joke about it for not having in pain. I was so proud of that! three months later, my son and I decided to go to Oregon to see the light house. It was raining and cloudy. As I park my car right in front of the light house parking, I thought to myself, wow! That is indeed amazingly height. I can do it. So I follow my son. Up we go. Half way to the top, I was grasping air. My son look down and asked if I was okay. I said I am alright. I finally made it to the top breathing heavily. Still grasping air, smiling as I looked down, seeing the whole view of the ocean, mountains, buildings, and houses. Light flickering afar was enough for me to smile with excitement. My son and I only spent a few minutes due to a cold and wet weather. The very next day I felt the reward of joy. My whole body felt like over ninety years old complaining of aches and pain. walking down the stairs with my legs felt like 10 pounds heavier. It took a couple of days before I completely recovered. At that point, it made me realized how lucky I am to live at this age with a healthy body. This made me strong and actively looking for a healthy diet. Beside all the clothes I am wearing that are all shrinking now due to the side effect of being old, that tent to grow wider, I am good!
    All best to all!

  3. I like your style! You make me feel strong just by reading your post! Yes, I carried a heavy backpack on this trip to Mayo Clinic without falling over or dropping it on someone else’s head trying to get it down from the overhead bin. Strength indeed! I wish I had the strength to pick myself up after landing kurplunk in the snow stepping onto what I thought was the curb, but it was a soft snowpack extended beyond the curb instead. The real strength came in letting two strong guys pick me up and brush me off without crying! Hah! Sometimes it takes more strength to admit we aren’t strong than it does to fake it! Hah! ❤
